After my session with Madison, I headed up to visit my cousin Jennifer and her kids, Olivia and Ethan. When I am in town, I like to make the most of it! We had a great time and spent a lot of it playing, rolling around on the ground, and having a great time in the fall leaves. Olivia didn't warm up to the camera at first, but after a little while I think she might have even enjoyed it a bit.
Sometimes to get kids to warm up and relax and forget about the camera, I suggest we just run and play for a little while. I'll shoot with a medium telephoto lens and just let kids do their thing. Sometimes I get the best pictures that way:

LOVE LOVE LOVE this one. Ethan is just too cute. You'll be seeing more of this picture in my new marketing materials as well.
The whole family, Olivia, Earl, Jennifer and Ethan. This is the closest we got to having everyone sit still and looking at the camera :)
We did a lot of playing on the slide in the backyard

After we were all finished, Olivia insisted I take pictures of many of her toys, including this dinosaur. This one cracked me up - I love her expression!

These are wonderful, wish I was living closer to you so I could be asecond shooter to your professionalness!
Hmmm, I commented on this post a little while ago, and came back today to see if you'd commented back to my comment. But I don't see my comment! That's a lot of the use of the word "comment." Anyway, stellar photos...with your "backup" and I do especially favor the one of the two holding hands. I had asked if you were willing to share what camera/lens/setting you used to take it? The colors, the light, you amaze me, Kelly. Great!!
Thanks Jennifer & Kim! :)
For most of the shots, I am using either a Canon Digital Rebel XT, or a Canon EOS 30D. The lens I used most that day was an EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM. This lens is the MACK DADDY of the Canon portrait lenses. I would like to point out here that I RENT this lens for shoots, seeing as I am not quite able to spend almost $2,000 on a lens. Yet. ;)
The specifics on the hand-holding shot: ISO 100, 85mm f/2.8 1/4000 sec.
P.S. - Jennifer - I had a similar problem commenting on a friend's blog the other day too. Wassup Blogger???
Just realized there are two shots where they are holding hands. The first one is shot with a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM. The info on that one is ISO 100, 40mm, f/4.0, 1/800 sec.
Oh, you are the best. Someday I will be able to even comprehend a tenth of what goes into your shots. Thanks for sharing!!!! Hmmm, renting lenses. Never heard of that! Oh, and LOVE your new header!! Love it.
